French Cane or Rattan Webbing :

Traditional 1/2"(1.25cm) hexagonal open weave pattern,(see photo) . This machine made sheet cane is the only suitable material for use as radiator covers. The cane, when soaked for 40 minutes in hot water and when stapled securely to a frame, will dry taught and will not sag with temperature changes. Once dry, it can be stained or simply spray-painted at a fraction of the cost of brass.
Other uses of sheet cane include screens, cupboard doors, panels and modern chair seats, which do not have drilled holes where the cane is held. The cane is fixed into a 5mm wide groove by 4.5mm Centre Cane (This allows for 1/2mm for the French Cane), at 80p per 2-metre length or £8.90 per 1/2 Kg.(approx. 40 metres), or the appropriate size round centre cane (see Centre Cane).
